Servicing advice please

Post by roblightbody » Sat Sep 21, 2019 6:39 pm

Hi there,

Our Z4 Coupe that we've had for a few months now, is almost ready to go in for an MOT at our local specialist. We are just trying to figure out what we should do for the best in terms of a service - both to look after the car properly, and give it a good history in case we needed to sell it.

Its had an
Inspection 2 in 2015 at 45000 miles.
Oil service in 2016 at 48500 miles.
Oil service in 2017 at 49500 miles

The car is now at 55000 miles - When we turn it on it says Oil Service in 11750 miles.

Is it OK to just get it an oil service even though its 4 years since its last Inspection 2?

The car is low mileage, and we expect it to stay that way.

Thanks for all advice.

Personally I still don't buy this 2 years service 20,000 miles business. Sounds to me to be a win for the accountants versus the engineers. Yearly, no matter the mileage it has an oil change with good quality oil (usually LL04 spec) as that is what they say the engine needs or Millers Nanodrive oil which general opinion says is top quality. It is not good practice in my opinion to leave it so long. A couple of extra oil changes are a damn sight cheaper than a replacement engine :driving:

Its a Si not a S54 , the difference between the ins 1/2 & oil services is not that major as in actual fluids or parts changed .
Its 4 yrs / 10k since last ins2 , technically you are way off needing another but i would do oil+filter plus air filter & as said above look to change the oil yearly or every 6-8k
Plug change id be doing next yr with the oil
If you are looking for things to do maintenance wise you might want to think about changing gearbox oil at some point

Coolant and brake fluid every two years regardless of mileage.
Oil every year.

Thank you everyone.

I also have a classic mini, so know about the wonders of frequent oil changes! It'll get getting done annually now the car's in our care, despite the low mileage.

The servicing regime is officially as per Service display or max of 2 years

I get mine serviced annually. I follow the official schedule but add an extra oil/flilter change in between

Mine is being serviced and Mot’d this week. I’ve done 5.5k since the last one. The display is showing 11k till next service

Maybe I’m being anal but it’s an old car and a bit of tlc never hurts
