Why is nothing straightforward!
New Z4. Tick
New 3 series m sport leather seats as adviced. Tick.
Told that I'd have to swop the pre tensioners. Tick.
Then find that the wiring on the underside of the seats is different!
Could somebody please let me know if they've come across this. (See images) before?
Existing old cloth seat has the occupants wiring going straight under seat.
New leather seat has a small black box.
Do I just not use that wiring and cut it off or is there a way of overriding it?
Please help.

You can open up the big black connector by the yellow connector block, then swap the wires over - there's a bunch of separate connectors in that are just held together.

Will my cars connector recognize the black box instead of what's currently there?

When I swapped over my leather SE seats for E46 M seats both sets of seats had similar wiring and occupancy black boxes, so It was just a case of sliding back the black part on the big yellow connector and swapping them over.
Unfortunately, as you mention your cloth seats don’t seem to have that black box. I guess the only thing you can do is unplug the wiring and see if the connectors are the same and give it a go.
If all else fails, you can buy a seat occupancy bypass on eBay which fools the ECU into thinking someone is always sitting in the passenger seat.

Thanks davros, I've managed to do it now using NickDE's method but I had heard of those bypass boxes and that was going to be my next option. Cheers mate.

I'm impressed you managed to follow my crappy description ! Enjoy the M3 seats, they are soooo much better.

Once I knew that connector came off it fell into place. Yes they're much better especially compared to the cloth ones that were in the car, they seemed very hard.
Next decision is do i dye them red?
Thanks for your help.
