35i front brakes e85 swap

Post by S6Z4 » Sat Jun 29, 2019 2:14 pm

Is it possible to do a straight swap for the 35i brakes In to a 2004 e85 , or does someone sell an adaptor plate allow the Caliper fitment among with the bigger 348mm discs ? Also can anything be done with the rear std brakes while keeping the handbrake working.
Was going CSL route up front but cost is prohibitive , E46 rears don’t seem to fit so going that route with 996 callipers is also out 🤬
Any help greatly appreciated tia
Dan

Are the 35i brakes that much bigger…?

I don’t think you can do anything with the rears easily.

You can use CSL discs with the M Performance calipers - https://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1075669

I was thinking Porsche brakes for the front on mine. But didn’t want to create too much front brake bias in the car. That is a viable option as it’s more readily available and should come in under £1k including all accessories which you’ll need to upgrade. Take a look at e46 and e39 threads (interchangeable hardware with the e85).

What put me off was that it’s a well-travelled route so the calipers aren’t cheap, and you need adaptors on top (£100).

1. Need a adaptor ?
2. Brake lines ?
3. What size disc , poss the csl was told but wasn’t 100% sure so need clarification before buying all the above.. any one had Porsche and F30 to compare the 2

I'm still in the middle of fitting it.

No adaptors needed. You'll need new hoses - I wasn't happy with the F30 ones so got some custom ones made up.

I'm using CSL discs.

Hey mate, saw your pistons post. What did you need other than the hel hoses? What size hub spacer you end up with? :)

Rare '15 Plate E85 Z4 3.0i SMG

25mm spacers - I want to use less but shape of the 108s makes this difficult with the caliper clearance.

Hose spec:

Custom Brake Hose
Fitting One Fixed Female - M10 x 1.00
Fitting One Angle Straight
Fitting Two Swivel Male - M10 x 1.00
Fitting Two Angle Straight
Support One Rubber Grommet
Length 55cm

25! wow! :o
Do you not get rubbing? I've had M spec tyres on my front and that gave me issues! So surprising this doesn't?
