Witch car do i sell????

Post by captain caveman » Sun May 19, 2019 6:52 pm

Some of you may remember me posting about a cat D car with Zero history i was looking to buy last year..

Image

Well its turned out to be brilliant car that drives great little ruff around the bumpers but that fine as i don't have to worry about where i leave it or getting knocked about, its done 106k and it stands me at under £2000 so im not to bothered if i use it or not.
Love the engine box and the sport button even rather the seats over the M sport ones.
I dident really have any intention of selling it anytime soon.........

Then this came along and with less that 24k on the clock i felt it was 2 good not to buy.

Image

Its a clean 2 owner car with lots of nice extras but its lacking any service history.
Seller told me he bought it when it was under 2 years old as a repossession from BCA with no keys or paperwork and as serviced it himself since. (MOT History checks out)
One headlight is leaking but does dry out and the wheels need a refurb.

Now my head tell s me i should be keeping this car but my heart is in the old blue car.
The black car is lacking the sport button and anther thing that really annoys me is the lack of a dipstick! :x
I don't find the seats that nice either but if i was to keep it ive thought about changing the interior to red if i could find one in good nick.

So the questions are
How would you value the black car in the real world with no history?
Witch car should i keep?

I can't help with the value, but I'd keep whichever drives better!

Although if you are doing much mileage it may make sense to keep the black one.

BTW, as well as having no dipstick the newer one will have the famed electric water pump which eventually just dies - it's a £200+ part! (Don't aks how I know).
Coupes because stunning!

Sounds like all the fun comes from the blue, so keep the blue!

I envy the "I don't have to worry about where I leave it", "don't have to worry to drive", this is priceless...!
The black one cannot give you as much, and you'll be sorry to spend any money on it if it does not have the full history to make it a perfect "low miles" example.
If you are really willing to make a rare buy with the hopes of keeping value, etc... you'll need to buy something much rare than this, and you'll be probably too scared about miles and scratches to enjoy the car as much.

All the best in the sale, whichever of the two you decide to let go!

I'd also go with your heart, keep the blue! Sounds like it gives you far more joy and less mileage shouldn't matter these days if you look after them :)

Just been out for a quick drive in them both back to back :driving:
Plus points of the black car are...
Exhaust note is more noticeable.
Steering wheel is nicer like the chunky feel of it.
Steering feels a lot more sharp
Negative points
The M Sport seats are terrible!
There is annoying squeak from under the dash when at low speeds, Well probably there all the time but cant hear it after 30 :D

Engines.....
The black one tends to feel more lively over 4k and starts to rev quicker
The blue one has more low down torque and pull the same throughout the rev range.

Looks......
The black one does look a nicer car.

Wife says to keep the blue one shes not a fan of the seats either

If it just comes down to seats and steering wheel, swap those from the blue car into the black car! :D the engine and steering wheel are pretty big factors when it comes to enjoying a car, in my eyes.

I'm assuming both have the same engine whatever that is, personally I have never cared about service history but have always avoided cat registered cars. So I guess it's all down to what is important to you. which one feel better ect. I had the same dilemma last Christmas but It was 2.0 Vs 3.0 so no contest for me. For instance if you think the low mileage car is unworthy because it has no service history I would disagree and say how much service do you need on a 20k mileage car for heaven's sake.. I bought my Steve with almost no history at all on 107k
Without seeing either , on paper I would keep the low mileage and make it your own and put your own service history on it for 10 years :D
If you ever think I'm off my rocker.. Just put me back in it and walk away... It's the kindest thing
My wife says I never listen - or something like that.
gone but not forgotton -Mean Steve - made a sound like a bear with his nuts in a trap.

I'd go for the black one at first glance. But what are the engines? The options specs? How much does the black one owe you?

There both 2.5 but the black car has the 177bhp engine.
Both have the same extras apart from the blue one has the sport button :driving:
Both cars have no history the blue one is a cat d but thats of no issue to me.
The black one looks a nicer car but from a drivers view i think im keeping the blue one.

Would be a pretty easy choice for me as the N52 2.5i was a bit of a lemon in my book - 174bhp vs 189bhp for the M54 2.5i. The 2.5si is a different story with the 215bhp lump.

The N52 2.5i and the 2.5si are the same engine though so you have to ask yourself how easy it would be to liberate the extra 41bhp??? It must have been covered before somewhere on here. That might change your mind!!

Just looking at resale values though, you'd get an awful lot more for the N52 than you would for a Cat D M54. The economics of the decision is a bit of a no brainer.
