Yep.

Trend is the same on many BMW cars like e46, e90 and F30 all running 225/255 on 8 & 8.5" wheels as soon as you opt for the M Sport trim level, regardless of engine power.

I have 255/40/18 on my 2003 3.0 - they are great, I have no rubbing etc and the car drives really well, but I am running X1 style 322's 9j with a 41 offset - I don't know what the original fitment is...

Why just Michelin? There are now some really good tyres that are equal or better. Goodyear f1 nct5, Hankook Evo 3, german mags that have tested these put them in front of the michelin. Falken fk510 is also highly rated. I bet if you drove a zed not knowing what tyres are on it you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

I’ve not read anything that shows the Goodyear, Continental, Dunlop equivalents of the Supersports or PS4 last anywhere near as long as the Michelin’s...so for me it’s a false economy to save 20% on a tyre that may last 50% less miles...even if they perform as well (which I’m not disputing).

to quote auto-bild magazine
"The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 beat Michelin at it's own game, having the lowest wear on test! Michelin and Continental were a close second and third place, which is great to see as wear has been a weak point for Continental in the past."
I think expecting 50% less wear is very optimistic. In my opinion, based on reading various tests, the best on the market at the moment is the Goodyear F1 asy5 and is considerably cheaper than the Michelin. The next best is the Falken fk510 and the hankook Evo3, these can be had for £110 fitted, compared to the ps4 at a shade under £190 fitted you could almost have 4 hankooks for the price of 2 michelins! Buying michelins now that is a false economy.

Excellent info Davz  …with some strong facts.....although I think you meant that expecting 50% less wear is very pessimistic, not optimistic.....

Looks like I’ll have a good choice when the Supersports need replacing then

Goodyear and Michelin have always been my top preference, they seen to keep alternating who is on top, which is good for the industry as it keeps companies working on better and better technologies. Next tyres on mine may well be the Goodyear Supersport, it seems they're working on 18" sizes unlike Michelin with the PS4S

The F1 Supersport is already available in M sizes for about £160 fitted per tyre.

The F1-A5 only seems to be available in the front size.
