engine noise!

Post by zee1 » Fri Feb 22, 2019 6:35 pm

Hi all my next question!! My 03 2.5 with only 24k miles fsh sounds lovely really quiet and as it should, when it is ticking over it occasionally makes a single tap noise which I can feel when I put my hand on the engine, It is not a knock and not a tick somewhere in between other than this it sounds glorious and drives perfectly I haven't driven it for a while since I bought it as it's not taxed and has been tucked up in the garage I don't think its much just looking to see if anyone else has this
Thanks again Steve

It could be old fuel, I’d fill up with a fresh tank of good stuff and see how it runs then :driving: If you happen to have a code reader it would be worth plugging it in to check for a slight misfire.

Thanks for your reply it doesn't sound like a misfire it is just a noise :!: as I say like a single tap. I know it is difficult to diagnose problems over the net are there any members in Torquay?

Is this with the air-con switched on or set to auto? if so it could be the compressor kicking in and out, worth checking.

With low miles and little use I would guess a sticking valve adjuster, I would take it for a good run, drain the oil, change filter and fill with fresh oil and take it for an Italian tune up.
