Hi,

Having joined the forum just over a couple of weeks and having no previous experience in purchasing BMW's, I'm keen to get some guidance from long term Z4 owners on the ideal buy price on a private car I have recently viewed.

Its a 57 plate Sapphire Black, 3.0 Si Sport Coupe, manual, Red Interior, comes with most options inc SAT NAV, Heated sts. Xenons.

4 owners inc the current owner.

The mileage is just over 51k and has 6 months MOT.

Advisories on the current MOT are all 4 tyres and NSF, OSF Lower Ball Joints. Its also due an Oil and brake fluid change.

2 of the split rim standard 18" Alloys showed signed of corrosion.

Overall the car bodywork is in good condition and drives and sounds well, from what I could tell being sat as a passenger.

Hi There, I would suggest looking at BMW Z4 Coupes on Autotrader. They only made them for three years (06-09) and there are normally about 45 on there so you should find a few of similar age/spec/mileage to give you an idea of prices (that is what I did). It all depends on condition/history ,etc...
I would suggest somewhere between 8-11k (very approximate), but the one you are looking at sounds like it has not been loved (based only on oil, ball joints and tyres), does it have a good service history? They all drive and sound amazing, but take your time to get the right one. Took me nearly a year, but worth the wait. Totally amazing cars.

Its does have FSH, the current owner did a full fluid change exc brake fluid when he purchased it in April 2017, he did state that if he was keeping the car, the oil, brake fluid change and advisories would be rectified.
He's hardly driven it in the short time he's had it, which is the reason for sale, just sat in garage not being used.

Haggle hard. Coupes seem difficult to shift, but that's at a decent mileage.

So the spec and colour is identical to mine. Same year. I paid £10.6k with 48k on the clock.
Given the advisories, i’d say £10k would mean both parties are happy.

£10k was the figure I initially offered but it was not accepted, so said I would go away and get opinions from Forum members.

Looking now, Autotrader also values it at £10,200 that's exc options and all the advisory items.

Yeah, those advisories should be accounted for by the seller.
I guess it boils down to how badly you you want the car. Is it exactly what you’re after? Have u been looking long? Are u planning to keep it as a cherished member of the family, or realistically perhaps sell it after a year or so?

Only been looking a few weeks, this is the only one I've gone and viewed so far and if you look at my wanted add, Black and and all the options is not really my preference, but its more the mileage that appeals to me because the plan is to get something as a long term keeper.

I think your offer is very fair given what the car needs!

My 1st Coupe had heated seats, but given I've always had a daily driver as well and didn't use my E86 when it was really cold (saved it from gritting rash) I don't miss not having them now. And my current daily has heated seats anyway!

But Xenons are definitely worth having - my current Z4 doesn't have them, and the Halogens are pretty poor!

10+ year old Nav is never going to be much use these days - I just use a Garmin that I can put in whichever car I use on the day!

By the way a proper refurb of 108 wheels won't be cheap as it will mean having the tyres off and splitting the rims. There are 20 bolts on each wheel, and from what I've read you'd be very lucky to get them all out without some shearing.

I see you want to keep it long term, but how much will you use it?

If you plan to put miles on it I'd buy a leggier one for less money, but if it's a "toy" like mine then this one may be a good option - but I wouldn't want to pay much more for it.

Yeah I’d say £10k is fair too.
If he declines then u won’t be too disappointed as it not your first choice.
I take it u test drove it n looked at all the paper work etc...?

£11.5k is way over the top considering the work it needs doing. When I first read your post I had £9k in my head. £9.5k with the bits and bobs sorted.

As a long term keeper, It will be used as second weekend car, so probably 2-3k miles per year if that.

Yes I looked at all the paperwork which all added up, but was missing the owners manual and wallet.

Didn't drive it myself as I didn't have the insurance to do so, but would do so if I went back for second viewing.

I think I'd walk away & let him sweat for a week or two. £11,500 for a private sale is having a laugh. There have been cars for sale for years at that price.
