type of oil

Hi all I am sure this has been asked many times before, but I can't find the definitive answer on here. I am a newbie to the Z4, I have just bought an 03 2.5 which I will mainly be using in the summer. I will be changing the oil once a year but won't be doing many miles approx 3-5k. My question is can I use a decent fully synthetic oil ie Mobil 1 helix or similar maybe 5w 40 or 0w 40 non long life as it will be changed yearly? Do I have to use the exact spec or just decent oil ?
thanks in advance Steve

I used to put 0w-30 in my Zeds but since my last oil and filter change I’m now using 0w-40. I’m a fany when it comes to maintaining my cars so I change the oil and filter every 6 months or so despite not using the Z4 much.

i agree completely, the long life oil is a con by car manufacturers and does our cars no favours

Quick question Skelters - on the Opie web-site, one gets a lot of options when inputting your reg details. In your experience, which I know is dependent on personal use, what is best for your 3.0Si Sport (same as mine u see)...?
2007 Z4 3.0Si Coupe, Carbon Black, 53K on clock & counting...
Mineral White M240i
