silver top - black top ?

My understanding is that the facelift N52 Si models came with a silver rocker cover (or whatever it's called) for a period, before returning to a black cover with engine revisions.
My questions are
- Did this apply only to the Si versions, or to the lesser N52 engines also?
- When did the change back to black take place?

I'm about to look at a few cars, so would be useful to know.

Great! That's what I was after, thanks.

I've seen it before but just couldn't find it when I needed it and was in a hurry to get out and view a couple of cars.
