First mot in my care

Post by Dave 2 dogs » Thu Jan 17, 2019 10:03 am

Mot due already, doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun,
I’m doing it a month early because you can , and I can’t bear not knowing if it will pass for another month.... aprox 1,300 miles since I got the car
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG 😬
Hate the first mot on a car , it’s so much better when you know the car after a few years

Sorry you needed some work to pass the MOT Dave :(

I always find MOT’s squeaky bum time, particularly with the Zed 😬

It might be worth putting some rust converter on the rear brake pipes to give em some protection.

Lithium grease is a good thing to spray on brake pipes, and is cheap and easy

Thanks for support guys, didn’t think £90 with mot was too painful. What should I do about the other bits? I’m probably gonna end up using it to part ex to a dealer

That bolt broken on exhaust join could well be the joint up to the headers. If it is you need to get it fixed properly and quickly. Its a common fail point but a relatively easy fix if caught early enough. Not sure where you live but Mr Exhaust was recommended to me and they did a brilliant job. I have been told that really corroded joints can lead to a new exhaust and header (very expensive) so dont leave it for another year.

Solves the issue, but not necessarily the advisory!

My nephew's E46 had an advisory in October 2017 for "nearside rear brake pipe slightly corroded". So next time it was at his regular garage they greased the rear pipes up - then in October 2018 he got an advisory for "brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material"! :headbang:

When I got an advisory on my E46 the next time I swapped the wheels from winter to summer I wire brushed the pipes, got some emery paper on them then painted them with Hammerite - no advisory after that.

Anyway good to know you got your MOT OP. If you will be part-exing it I'm not sure it's worth doing anything TBH.
