Grubby exhaust

The end of my exhaust pipe is quite grubby and needs a clean up or alternatively changing for a different one, Anyone got any tips for what to clean it with or a suitable replacement?

Some wet & dry, lubed with WD40 etc, will clean it up nicely. It'll never shine though as it's stainless - you'll need some sort of chavvy aftermarket tailpipe for that.
Alternatively, get the tailpipe changed to a twin pipe (6 cylinder style) maybe with a back box conversion for the epic sound - Mike at Zed Shed can do either for you. He's nice and local to you at Earlstown/Newton le Willows - [email protected]

Thanks guys, for 4 quid ill have a go a cleaning it first (6 quid in halfords the robbing gets!) and see how it comes up, TBH as long as its clean ill be happy. I do like the 6 pot sound but not right coming out of my little 2.0i, id have to debadge to further the illusion. Been thinking about moving up to a 2.5 or a 3.0 sometime, ill get the summer out of this one then see whats about later on this year.

That is just the bare exhaust pipe in your photo. You can polish that all day long and it won't look much different. Your tail-pipe trim is missing.

Does the 2.0 have a trim? Can't say I've ever seen one.

I washed mine with some fallout remover then gave it a polish with some Chemical Guys Heavy metal polish any brand will do but some have bigger abrasives in them. Stick that on some 000 wire wool and give it a good scrub, most of that grunge should come off.

If its hard work then try it with 00 wire wool and metal polish, facing that its a sandpaper job or a new trim piece.

Harpic 100% limescale remover in the dark blue bottle. Rubber gloves and wire wool. BEWARE this stuff is hydrochloric acid do not get it on your skin. It however cleans exhausts brilliantly. :D

Hi mackharry, if you want your tailpipe to look like this

then you really don't have much option other than to invest in a proper OEM chrome trim. £44 on Ebay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 1851200478
Not cheap but does look pukka.
A dealer may possibly be cheaper, I believe Sopers give discount to forum members ? :?

Used Autosol, wirewool, different grades of sandpaper and wet and dry paper. ( The shiny one is from my old zed when I did a backbox delete and have put it on my new Zed but have modified the internals)
