Hardtop and Insurance

What do those of you with hardtops do with regards to your insurance? Do you declare it, increase the value or do nothing? Just wondered as they're not exactly cheap but not standard either so if the worst happens....

Good point. Don’t think it’s been mentioned before. Probably find if you don’t tell them they’ll void cover.

I’ve never thought about it, declared all my other mods (which is lots!!) but hardtop didn’t cross my mind!

Might have to give them a call tomorrow for peace of mind

Please report back if you do enquire what they say... At least it's an official BMW accessory. Could be blagged that it makes the car safer from ragtop vandalism and potentially a bit more secure! Some folks won't even realise with it on that's the car's not a coupe...

I am with Admiral, who do like to rip their customers off. No extra charge for fitting hardtop, there was however an admin fee of nearly 20£, for noting down that a hardtop has been fitted.

Would be surpirsed if they were interested as they're only fitted temporarily.

Thing is though, insurance companies will do anything nowadays to avoid a payout. Or they might pay out but you could lose a grand if the hardtop is damaged and not norlted/covered.. Temporary yes but possibly 3-4 month temporary is plenty time for something to go wrong.. That's the insurance gamble...
