Best place to buy trim?

Post by Zedtastic » Sun Jan 06, 2019 2:33 pm

Hello all,

I need to buy a couple of small bits of trim for my E86. I'm reluctant to call my local BMW stealer as they are not the most helpful, and I suspect that when they find out that what I am looking for is only worth pennies (by their standards), they won't be bothered to help. I need two bits;

1) One of the black plastic half-turn screws that holds the inspection panel on inside the O/S front wheel arch.
2) A black plastic screw cover that fits on the side of the centre consol.

Anyone got any ideas where is the best place to get these?

Best way is to get the parts numbers first then order. That way they don't get snooty thinking they're only looking up Mickey Mouse parts. It might be the breakers that are less than interested in small parts like these which might just be junk missed and lying around to them.

Look up the part numbers and then search for the numbers on ebay. Amazing what you can find on there...

Get the part numbers off the RealOEM website (looks like that's where you got the above pics from), double-click/highlight the part number and copy and paste it into google (or if using Chrome, right-click and select "Search google for...") - first links to come up are likely to be Ebay.

Let me know us know if you can find that first piece you're looking for - I need 2 of those but I couldn't find any despite searching all day!

You’ll have to buy the entire flap by the looks of it. As above I’d try a breakers.

The centre console covers are a small fortune, if still available. Last I know they were over a fiver each. Easy to 3d print though, as could be the catch you need.

The flap is one piece as srhutch says and wasn’t too much last year when we needed one. The internal one is for what it is but I guy on the forum was good enough to send me one for postage costs as it wasn’t perfect. Main dealers parts dept near me is really helpful though ( Knights stoke) and even gave me a couple of low cost items free as they couldn’t be bothered to generate an invoice.

Look up the part numbers using http://www.realoem.com

Call up BMW Soper of Lincoln (who offer discount on parts to forum members).

I've ended up ordering a complete inspection flap which includes two of the half-turn clips. Its on a 28 day delivery schedule (I'm not in a rush). If you are still looking for a clip parabolica, let me know.
