That’s fine in 2018, but I don’t believe google maps was much good 14 years ago when some of these cars were built.oldgitdave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 8:48 pm Totally can't see the point of having it in a Z4 with Google maps "online" nav available on your mobile.

Satnav; With or without?
I have had a Z4 with and without, I would pay more for one without. In my opinion it spoils the look of the dashboard and I hated the way it always popped up. Although I agree phone holders are less convenient, unless you are regularly going places that you don’t know they are acceptable and much more accurate. I use Waze and a holder that fits in the CD player and this set up with an iPhone X is miles better (in my opinion) than the BMW built in version.
But I’m sure on here will disagree!

Mine came with it - I took it out. Really dated, I put in an Apple Carplay / Android Auto unit so had zero use for it. I'd happily have one without the factory sat-nav, and to be fair, when I was first looking for a Z4 I didn't care if it came with sat nav or not.
NO LONGER OWN A Z4 SO NOT AS ACTIVE HERE ANYMORE (IF AT ALL).

But the OP is on about the fors & against buying one in 2018 isn't he? . I bet it was a huge extra cost 14 years ago & I wouldn't look to buy one with it today let alone back then. Most cars seem to come with it these days weather you want it or not.mmm-five wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 9:43 pmThat’s fine in 2018, but I don’t believe google maps was much good 14 years ago when some of these cars were built.oldgitdave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 8:48 pm Totally can't see the point of having it in a Z4 with Google maps "online" nav available on your mobile.

I actually like the satnav. I don't really use it as my maps are only up to 2013, but I think the screen looks good (even though it's a bit pixelated these days). You can also use it to adjust a few settings like time and some other things which I think would be a little easier than if you didn't have it.
Though I am actually thinking of gutting the computer and screen and putting a tablet inside the mechanism so that I will have an up to date system which would be better than any car really

I think as said above it spoils the dash I made sure I found a car without.

Anything of that nature dates and based on the fact the cars are already 12 years old and the intention on purchase is to retain them for a significant period I would always favour the none display option.

My 2006 coupe has nav so I may be biased, but I quite like it. The e85/86 interior is pretty dated anyway so the retro screen just adds to the effect.
I only use it occasionally and it does the job. I'd probably get annoyed with it if I was regularly relying on it though.
If I was buying a zed today i wouldn't mind either way if it had nav or not. Just find the right car with the options you do want.

I specifically went for a car without Nav. It spoils the dash and my phone(s) over the year have more than been enough for when I needed it. The rest of the time the full dash in not interrupted.
Back when these cars were designed the navs were an after thought to me. Never well integrated.

Do you have a picture of that. I would quite like to put something more up to date in.IAmOrion wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 10:40 pm Mine came with it - I took it out. In other words the hybrid version which has an analogue / digital tuner rather than just analogueSimon 3.2M wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 7:52 pmGwest44 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 8:26 pm Definitely without - I have it in mine with the digital TV capability but would much rather have the clean lines on the dash.

+1 for without. Looks much cleaner and won’t date as fast.

No Sat-Nav was a key criteria when I was looking for mine. Spoils the clean lines of the dash. I use a Garmin when I need help.

My "new" ZMR has had it's Nav updated with newer firmware, but I still don't think it's a make or break option. I've had the TomTom app on my iPhones for almost a decade now and personally trust it over any in car system. It's nice having the screen for multimedia, but it wasn't any option I was actively looking out for when looking at ZM's. Compared to the Nav in my dad's '04 E46 M3, the Z4's Nav is on a whole nother level.
Also I much prefer having Darth Vader telling me to turn to the darkside when I'm at roundabout!

I prefer without and purposely sort a car without one. It does spoil the look of the dash and is so dated now. It reminds me too much of the old crt tv's.
