E63 seats in E85

Post by Timmyboybunter » Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:55 am

Hi folks,

Apologies if asked before, seems an obvious question but a search didn't turn up the answer.

I'm aware E46 seats will bolt straight into an E85, Google also tells me E63 seats will also bolt straight into an E46 - so I assume the fitment is the same across all 3 models.

As all the E46 seats on Ebay seem to be in poor condition, just wondering whether E63 seats will physically fit (and mount?) into my E85 or are they too bulky?

Thanks.

Works the other way round so would imagine it'll be ok
Edit: no idea about physically fitting though

Thanks Phil, confirms the fitment - yes it's the physical size that I wonder about, especially with the talk of comfort/weight in that thread. I wonder how they compare size wise to the E46 seats which do look a bit bulky in the Z compared to standard.

Possibly I'll look out for a cheap, messy single E63 seat on Ebay so I can size it up :)

track down some e86 M seats instead.. bypass all the hassle. yeah you might pay a bit more, but just less hassle.

Yes you could be right - certainly less hassle, I do like a challenge though. I quite like the idea of a 'plusher' seat but I don't want to run out of room in the cockpit, as my knee is already quite close to the dash/cruise stalk. I may end up finding a cheap/tired passenger example of both and see how the fitment is.

E63 seats in E85

Ha, yes they do look great - I see that chap removed the heating element when he fitted then, I guess it would be a bit tricky to get the BMW and Mazda electronics talking unless all the heating pads/wiring were swapped out as part of the process - bit too much effort for me :)

I keep coming back to the E63 M6 seats - the prospect of having comfy, supportive seats with a much larger heating area and also electronic bolster and seat base adjustment is too tempting, just the fitment issues (size, and whether my existing tensioners/seatbelt brackets would fit) holding me back. And the shed load of money I've already spent on the car this month

Currently my old man has an AMG C class on loan and the seats are bloody brilliant. Due to me having a lot of nerve and disc damage in my lumbar and below area, seats are really important for me. Only the special Recaros my Impreza P1 had (I think all the Impreza STi's of the late 90's had these) have felt better to me.

The Vader seats that the E30 M3 Evo's had and I think the E36 M3's , were/are some great seats to try out if they can fit. Pricey as hell though.

Not the best picture ever, but they can be made to fit

After seeing the photo I kinda wished I kept the power/heated Vaders I had in my old E36 convertible when I sold it

The E63M seats are massive!! My pal has one. The M seats for E85/6 are already a tight fit. Good luck!!

Ha, yes I thought size would be an issue - I guess the E63 seats are bulkier than the E46 seats perhaps. Going to park this mod for the time being I think.
