Lowering Springs Advice

Post by designoutlaws » Mon Oct 22, 2018 5:20 pm

I currently have a 56 plate 2.5si on 19" 'CSL' Wheels and I was wondering what would be the best option in terms of just getting rid of the arch gap really. Im not bothered about a firm/harsh ride, just don't want to deal with rubbing issues

Any advice would be appreciated on brands etc.

Cheers, Matt

I had Eibach's fitted to my old 3.0si. Also on 19 inch CSL reps. From memory the drop is around 25mm - 30mm.

The photos from my sale thread will give you an idea of the drop.

What tyres are you running o.p

Ive just added 19s myself on 225 30 19 and 265 30 19.
Cant decide whether to drop the rear only, as front is perfect or up the rear profile a little to 255 35 19

Im pretty sure i'm running the same tyre sizes. From the picture you've attached my car looks the same, front fitment isn't too bad but the rear looks awful.
From speaking too a few people with similar setups, eibach 30mm springs all round sounds the way too go.

I bet at some point, none progressive after market (not quite OE) rear springs were fitted. Perhaps after the tips cracked.

Your rear looks way too high, I'd suggest getting some Eibachs pro springs and fitted. You could do just the rears but fitting them all round will look spot on.

Is fitting eibachs not gonna make the ride really really firm though?

Eibachs are generally said to be slightly more compliant over the smaller bumps than m sport springs. I've had them on mine but they were paired with new B4 shocks and the ride was definitely better, but its not really a fair comparison as my original shocks were completely shot. Another option to reduce the arch gap would be to swap the tyres for M spec ones with a 5% larger sidewall. It reduces the arch gap, makes the speedo more accurate and improves ride quality too. I currently run mine on m spec sizes.

It will all depend on what offset/wheel width your running etc. It will also depend on how good the shocks are. Bizarrely I had less rubbing on Eibachs and new shocks than I did with m sport springs and knackered ones, despite the 15mm of lowering.
Tyre wise, on 19s an M would be on F225/40 R255/35. Mr Wilks would be the one to ask on here re rubbing etc.

Drop it on eibachs all round, but use thicker spring pads at the front to bring it back to the gap you prefer - that way you'll hopefully avoid the front rubbing, which you will get if you drop it at the front with those offsets.

Not at all. Every car that I've had Eibachs installed on (the Pro kit version) has had an improved ride. You won't regret it.
