Kidney Grills?

Post by Vijay » Mon Oct 22, 2018 2:33 pm

Hi All,

Looking to replace my grills with black ones (to go onto a Saphire Black Z4).
Could anyone recommend some good quality supplier?? I came across these on eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kidneys-Glos ... CntId#shId

cheers,

If yours are in good shape and you want to Black the chrome look why not wrap them? It’s easy to remove the chrome trim and even I found a way not to botch it up my first time attempting to wrap something

What have you got at the moment? A black to chrome swap is on my list when I get round to it.

Hi Piper
TBH I thought it would be just as easy to swap them out, having not done any kind of vinyl work....

I'd say plasti-dip them. Much easier to apply and quicker to take off if/when you change your mind! :)

These look very expensive. I think I paid around £20-25 for mine from eBay, although it was several years ago.
I tried painting the chrome surround of an OEM set initially, but the paint chipped off very quickly so I suspect it didn’t adhere to the surface.

Hi vj, do you have all chrome, or the standard 3 litre ones with a chrome surround and grey slats? If they are all chrome I'd be very interested in them. And I recently bought a pair with chrome surrounds and black slats from someone on here that I could offer as a swap!

@mr tidy... and I’d be interested in buying your gloss black with chrome surrounds if you are looking to move them on.

So are the facelift 3.0 standard with all chrome or with chrome edges and black slats? - I think my all black look like a featureless black hole against the montego blue and will swap them at some point but thought that 'all chrome' was the factory default.

AFAIK the standard facelift ones have a chrome surround and black slats. Except the 3.0Si ones have chrome surrounds and grey slats which I don't really like.

That's why I bought a pair of black ones, but if I could find some that were all chrome (rather than grey paint) I think I'd prefer that. The other option I've been thinking about is taking my grey ones apart and painting the slats Montego Blue, but I'm not sure how that would look!

I had a black 5 series loaner earlier this summer which had with gloss black grills which looked good but the black grills on a blue car don't work for me - don't know if blue on blue would either - don't know if you would get the grill definition. Might have to try all chrome and see how I go.
