xenon low beam help

Post by mrw187 » Wed Oct 17, 2018 1:47 pm

Hi,

Ok, first my left side oem bulb went out (confirmed burnt), so I replaced them both sides with a new pair D2S so they'd be the same colour temp.
Both were going fine at this stage.
Then the right side (new) bulb stopped working after a few weeks, so I tried the old one back in and it wouldn't go.
Brought a new (new) bulb and that does not go either.

Brought a new igniter part thingy that holds the bulb but that does not work either.

What else could it be?

Thanks.

There are only 3 things left: 1) ballast on the bottom of the headlight: 2) LCM; or 3) wiring.

Ballast would be my guess - bit of a pain to swap left and right but best way to confirm.

Genuine Hella ones are available at about £40, as it’s not a BMW Z4 specific part.

Thanks guys Ok so essentially this has gone beyond my scope;
as I do not have a car jack and a wheel nut crossbar thing I cannot lift the car and take wheel off and dive deeper for analyzing as I cannot reach/see what I am doing/need to do and will get a mechanic to figure it out.
It was a mission and a half to replace the bulbs as it was turning wheel in and reaching in.

Quickest way to get to the ballast seems to be bumper off, but then make sure you have spare clips (arch liner retainers, and bumper mounting clips) as some will break after being on there so long.
