I’m fitting rx8 seats at the moment. The bracket alterations are no probs, but the wiring side is. I have sussed out the main power for the motors. My question is about the heated seats, airbags and pretensioners for for the seatbelts. Are they essential?

Heated, is up to you.
Airbag removal is questionable, but being so old now maybe it wouldn't even perform correctly?
Pretensioners, can't you use the original ones? Should be easy to keep these? Unbolt from Z4 and put on the RX8? I'd say out of the lot keep the pretensioners at the very least.

I’ve swapped the buckles over but the Mazda seats didn’t seem to have pretensioners.

But BMW buckles come with the BMW pretensioner? Why just swap over the buckle and not the pretensioner as well? :?

Google tells me that removing the airbag is easy, a few 10mm bolts, obviously tape up the connector so no chance of setting it off, and dispose of it properly, they can kill if they go off.

I did. Was typing in a hurry last time.
Mazda seats don’t seem to have a pretensioner so I have swapped over the complete unit.

If you disconnect the airbag I wonder if an error light will show on the dash, in which case it will be an MOT failure. Worth checking?

The airbags in a Z4 are in the door not the seat there might be an occupancy sensor in the seat that needs sorting after the swap, that can probably just be wired to always on though. But if you disconnect the airbags in the doors dash or steering wheel without disconnecting the battery first you'll get a light as you say.

I’ve had the airbag light on since I changed the seats to e46 seats. I have to say, I love the rx8 seats.

Im new on the forum and have next to zero knowledge on wiring so forgive any discrepancies.

I'm interested in having some rx8 seats retro fitted. Unfortunately my BMW guy isn't familiar with the Mazda's do you have any diagrams that could shed any light on the process to get it to function properly?

Before you worry about the wiring side of things you'll need new brackets made up... The RX8 won't just bolt straight in. There are a lot more recent threads covering the seats I'm sure - even if they're not specific to RX8 (this one is about 2 years old). The seat swap will be a similar process across the range? Whether its Mazda or something else? So should be more recent and more useful info out there... maybe even a few DIY! :)
