Help with heated mirror e86

Post by Paulro100 » Tue Sep 18, 2018 6:31 pm

My offside mirror fell off while I was polishing the car on Sunday!

What’s left is a rubber membrane that has remnants of glue on it. I know these mirrors are heated.

I ordered this, perhaps wrongly because I thought I was just ordering the mirror and not the backing plate however it is extremely well made and I wondered if I should take off the rubber, see what’s underneath and replace it with this?

Is the rubber there for waterproofing? And, if I take it off am I going to create a problem for myself later?

Or, should I just buy another mirror, stick it on with some heat resistant glue?

Any views.
Thanks

They are from eBay £11. It’s a well made and good looking mirror.
I’ve gone for just the glass. I’ll update when done

The rubber is the heating pad - if you're just replacing the glass don't remove it, just use some suitable glue or silicone that will withstand the heat
