This may be a dumb question but is the drivers door drop glass the same for E85 as E86?
I need a new door glass as mine is very badly scratched previous owner must have lived in sand dunes to wind the window down doing that much damage!
I can find glass for E85 but not E86. The scratches are way too deep to polish out. When I bought it I assumed they had dropped the glass after washing and they were water streaks

My e86 has a mark on it as well... i thought it was from the mechanism, never bothered me too much!

But i'm pretty sure the glass is different as they have different roof lines.... the glass on my coupe is pointed in the corner toward the rear of the car, i'm almost certain that it's rounded on the convertibles.

Believe me I have tried, white backgound, black background and a camera will not see them, shame my eyes are not so forgiving! There are 40 fine lines running top to bottom on the window, deep enough for a finger nail to drop into each one as you run a finger along the window front to back. I will try jewellers rouge to see if I can get the worst out. Don’t suppose anyone knows, when windows are tinted is it just the surface or the glass itself?

It's the glass that is tinted. Cerium oxide with a machine polish for the win.

Good man! Many thanks, one glass polishing kit ordered. Don't want any of that getting onto my polishing pads :o

Part number 51333420706, for the coupe only. I replaced mine for the same reason, cerium oxide was useless on my glass, the scratches were far too deep.

Cerium oxide by hand is hard work but with a machine polisher it cuts like beeeeeyatch.

thank you, this will be the last option, but I have a nasty feeling it will be the way I have to go in the end :(

I am going to try this on my passenger side window scratch -

Sweet Project Cars - REMOVE BAD SCRATCHES IN GLASS ! PERMANENTLY !!!

At the very least it will clean up the light swirls on the windscreen, driver side window and smell nice :-)

Pumice soap - Halfords £5

NOTE: If anyone tries this, then you must keep the glass cool or it may shatter, but this is the case with sanding too!
