Z4 Seat Swap Question

Post by Cyph3r » Thu Aug 16, 2018 5:11 pm

Quick question guys - while the answer may be obvious, I just wanted to check!

Do seats from a non-facelift Z4 (2005) fit as a straight swap into a facelift Z4 (2006)? (both zeds are standard non-sport seats, non electric, non heated seats)

So no issues with the occupancy sensor/airbag light?

Were the 2006 seats from a pre or post facelift? I believe there was a crossover in 2006?

If your installing facelift seats in a pre facelift car you will probably need to fit a seat occupancy bypass sensor to the passenger seat to prevent the airbag warning light being activated.

I think a couple of forum members have transplanted the sensor from their old seats and put it in the replacement passenger seat to avoid this, but it’s quite a task.

I'm going the other way around - pre facelift seats into a facelift car. Will it have the same issue?

Yep, I think the issue would still be the same because the seat occupancy mats are different.
If I was you, I’d install the new seats and just buy a bypass sensor off eBay if needed.

Z4 Seat Swap Question

Post by NickDE » Sat Aug 18, 2018 8:51 pm

I had problems putting early M3 seats into my 2007 Z4. The seatbelt pretensioners caused error codes. The later ones seem to have more wires coming out of them than the earlier ones, although they use the same connectors. Once I worked out what the problem was it was easy to swap the older and newer ones over.
