Why do you own a Z4?

Drove a Ferrari California around Paris on my honeymoon and have been hooked on convertibles ever since, looked at MX5, Porsche Boxster, Mercedes SLK, Audi TT and every time went back to the looks and curves of the Z4, test drove a few before falling in the love with the 3 litre straight six and loved it, paid the deposit and love everything about.

Why do you own a Z4?

Back in 2006 I decided on a replacement for my Calibra looked at the S2000 but needed an auto so then looked at NSX but thought they would cost a fortune to run since found out they do not then started looking at a Supra which pushed me towards used Z money so the saving began lots of overtime working 6am -8pm for months it was a killer but worth it.

Sold my Calibra summer 2007 then more hard saving to look at a purchase new year.

I had sat in a Silver roadster on 107s on a BMW stand at Brands when they first came out and like what I saw the young lady asking if I was interested in a test drive I replied will be looking at the used market in a few years time not ever thinking I would be driving one.

I then saw a coupe which I liked and was a bit nervous about owning a soft top so I think most likely would have bought one the price difference put pay to that as in Jan 2008 a Coupe would have cost me 26k so 17K for the roadster was the way to go and I do like driving top down well once I got over the first few drives and the flash tosser comment I got a couple of times in the first year of ownership.

Ten years in and I still enjoy owning this car and she still looks good :D

I drive my Z4C only to annoy Serie1 drivers (and because I can't afford a Porsche!) :D

And I still own it after 4 years because there is nothing that comes to my mind that feels as special, fun, not crazy expensive to maintain and runs with 6 cylinders!

I'm going to enjoy it until electric cars become a real alternative, then it will possibly increase (as a collector) or loose value (as an old noisy/thirsty/obsolete technology). But I'll still be in love with it whatever happens

N/A obviously :P

I can’t see how anyone could possibly think that the 3.0 is better than the S2k engine

Suppose I am on a z4 forum :poke:

There is no denying the S2000 has a very special engine indeed. However, I think the Z4 is more for people who don't want to roll back down a hill if they don't downshift.

I'd agree the S2000 has a very special 4-cylinder engine, but the BMW 3.0Si is a pretty special 6-cylinder engine and I know which I prefer - plus BMW managed to get the 3.0Si below 225 g/km which Honda couldn't do with a 2 litre (Probably why the S2000 didn't last long after 2006)! :bmwvhonda:

And with a Z4 there is always the option of the very special 6-cylinder engine in the M! :)
Coupes because stunning!

Fair enough ... can’t argue with that

That’s why I bought a M as well

My ocd wants me to sell the S2k and buy a z4m roadster , just so I have one of each

No - but I will admit to looking when I bought the 35is - then I realised what I was getting for the money!
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Sounds like a good plan - but then maybe there is something to be said for a bit of contrast by keeping the S2000 and the MC?

Still it's a nice dilemna to have!
