Why do you own a Z4?

Post by RustyZ4 » Wed Jul 25, 2018 5:16 pm

I am now on my second Z4, why do I drive one,,, well I always loved the look of two seater sports cars since I was a kid, then the whole family thing and finances ruled out buying anything non practical,, then when I eventually had some money and had a a wife's car as "sensible" option I started looking,
Porsche Boxster, fantastic car, bit dated looking, and running costs ££££
MX5, looked a bit mickey mouse, reminded me of the old MG, and not powerful engines
350Z, I just didn't like
SLK, not bad, not very exciting, bit of a sheep in wolfs clothing
so,, then the Z, loved it from the moment I drove it, loved the looks, loved the long bonnet, loved the straight 6, yes it had its flaws, but it put a huge smile on my face,,
Z4 Mineral Grey, 28i MSport Auto, lots of goodies
Z4 E85 3.0, gone but now with son :D

There are not many convertibles that look good with the roof up and down, the E89 in my opinion achieved that. It will be interesting to see what its replacement finally looks like.

My wife wanted one, I wasn't bothered. Then my car died and the local garage had one in. Complete impulse buy from me but I love it and it is certainly My car and not the wifes

I had wanted a fun, weekend, Roadster for years, but had found each one I test drove was either too small for me to get into, too large to enjoy driving or too unreliable. Test drove my MR and problem solved. :D

Love BMWs full stop had over 15 now since my first. Love open top motoring and now I'm without the regular need for 4 seats...unless we have grand kids over hence the X3 and mini CooperS....im normally just with Wifey. I love all my Zeds in different ways, but if offers were made I part with them. Then id buy some more!! As long as I can drive ill always have a Z.

I stared buying BMWs in 2005, mainly because I've always loved RWD, but boring practical 4 cylinder turbo-diesels for business use. :(

When I went to pick up my 123d in 2008 there was a Z4 Coupe in the dealer's car lot, and I decided one day I would have one.

Then in 2014 I took a pension early with a bit of a cash lump sum and decided it was time - goodbye 123d, hello Z4C. :)

I was so pleased with it I've had 2 manual N/A petrol engined BMWs as dailies since then!

I'd only consider selling if a Z4MC became an option.
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

I bought mine because I wanted to,get a fast sports car out of my system before I was 60. Looked at the Boxster S (dismissed because I wanted to better know which was the front) and also the SLK AMG ( despite its awesome power it was still too hairdresserish).

The Zed ticked all of the boxes, and 4 years on it still does. It was my daily driver, but has now been promoted to weekends only.

I did think that I wouldn't lose too much in depreciation, and was right. The Zed is a keeper until I cannot get in it and/or don't trust myself to drive it. Hopefully that's many years off!

It’s affordable, and makes driving very enjoyable (and nice to look at  )

I always wanted a Big Healey - the 3lt zeds are the modern day equivalent I think.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

The past few cars have been 2 seaters so naturally wanted something to replace the smart roadster, something smooth with all toys and a bit more grown up (with aircon!)
Ive had Toyota mr2 mk1(supercharger ) but werent very reliable, smart roadster was fun but a bit gutless and not enough room in the boot.
And fell in love with its looks of the Z4 :-)

There are many on here that once had a MR2 of sorts.

Seems to be a necessary right of passage to a Zed

I remember my smart roadster coupe fondly, who’d have thought a 700cc engine could be such fun! (Remapped of course) :P
