Oulton Park Trackday

Post by brillomaster » Fri Jul 13, 2018 8:26 am

Booked on for trackday number 4 in the Z4 at Oulton Park, this Tuesday coming.

Really looking forward to it, the car was absolutely mega round Donington back in February, and Oulton Park is a great circuit too. Will be the first time I've been there in the height of summer - previously have done autumnal or spring days, when its been a lot colder and wetter.

Track tyres I reckon have a few more days in them, but just got new brake pads fitted - PF08s, so keen to see how they hold up!

Anyone else going along? Pictures are included so going to get the zed washed on Monday so it looks good around such a picturesque circuit!

Favourite track. Love it. Bit bumpy and little run off makes it a bit more hairy and butt clenching.

My local, and 2nd favourite track (after the Ring of course).

You'll have to try Trac Mon on Anglesey if you get a chance! Completely different experience to the closed in 'park' ambience of Oulton, Croft & Brands, and you'll get times when all you can see is the sea & horizon!

You'll have a great time - just remember that the barriers are as hard in the dry as they are in the wet, and you'll be fine :P

Unfortunately, working away from home means I rarely get to do a 'cheap' mid-week trackday

this is the first midweek trackday I've ever done! Normally I'm strictly weekends, but the lure of oulton park in the middle of summer was too much. its with Opentrack if anyones interested in coming along:

https://www.opentrack.co.uk/product/oul ... july-2018/

would like to try Anglesey but its such a commitment, would have to stay overnight beforehand, whereas every other track in the country (bar Croft and Knockhill) I can do in a day.

I did it one day before The Beast From The East struck. Loved it, but it is hard to concentrate when looking over at Snowdonia !

Car survived! was running really well all day, brakes and tyres performing nicely, and seemed that the brakes ran a lot cooler with new pads and front fog lights removed.

dry and sunny all day, clocked 210 miles on track which is good going! only one brown flag moment when i dropped a wheel on the grass running through the kink approaching shell oils hairpin, pitching it into a spin. luckily stopped before getting to the gravel!

pics to follow :)

It sounds like you had a great day - even managed to stay out of the kitty litter!

210 miles sounds good - I bet you didn't do that on one tankful. :)

Top stuff Brillomaster  I love Oulton Park . First went spectating there back in '83 and eventually did about a dozen trackdays between '04 and '06 in the MK Indyblade I'd just built.

Ah, the famous Island Bend!

Had two wheels on the inside myself a few times, but with enough pressure on the outside two to not cause any issues (except for my passenger trying to find a non-existent grab handle)

Dry days seem to be easier on pads than wet days, as I find I get more consistent braking in the dry than the wet. In the wet/damp you never quite know what level of grip you'll have in the braking area one lap after another, and Knickerbrook can be a killer.
