Removing Whippy For Stubby

Post by Looney » Thu Jul 12, 2018 8:06 pm

I got a new OEM stubby aerial and for the life of me i cannot get the old whippy off, i am scared of snapping something of bending something. Ive read old posts but nothing solid of how to get this to work. Can anyone help?

I'd take that as a sign from God...

WD40 on there? Try work some into the thread by spraying on the crease and by rocking the whippy slightly back and forth at the base. Don't think I've heard of them breaking... give it a go. Get the whippy off  :poke: :fuelfire:

1. Get the car lifted on a cradle hoist (similar to the ones used to lift F1 cars from the gravel)
2. grasp the Whippy tightly
3. get someone to spin the car clockwise.

Mine was glued on my previous zed, i put a cloth around the whippy and used some claw grips to get it unstuck (light pressure increasing until it budges). I have heard of people shearing the bolt, in which case you'd need to source the base from BMW but its not a tricky job to replace if it happens, just more cost.

WD40, or better yet some proper penetrating oil. spray, leave for 15 minutes to soak in, unscrew
