Help - Stonechip Repair

Post by Gummi » Tue Jun 19, 2018 9:12 pm

Hi Everyone, I've got a stone chip on the top of the driver's side wing. There are some microscopic rust spots in the centre, 0.2mm maybe. What's the best way to repair this? I guess remove the rust and then use a touch up kit. I'm not sure of how to remove the rust, scrape it off with a wooden toothpick, rust converter?

Perhaps if you scratch away the rust then apply touch up paint immediately?

If you have any Iron-X or equivalent then spray it on, wash, dry, then touch up kit.

+1 yep I know I'd just never be happy with a touch up pen on that. Have used them for similar chips on cars in the past and have always been surprised; and pleased with the results

if doing DIY:

1) make sure you mask up the area as don't want to make it worse by accidently doing rest of your paint
2) get some rust converter and apply with a very fine paint brush
3) primer
4) sand primer with 1200 grit - best way to do this is get some sand paper onto edge of a pencil (not the lead end)
5) paint (with fine brush)
6) lacquer (with fine brush)
7) sand (2000 grit) until you can't feel the edge of the lacquer.
