Weight of different OEM alloys

Post by shuey » Sat May 26, 2018 3:51 pm

Hey all

I’ve been trying to find the weight per alloy for the following bmw alloy wheels.
Any idea what they are or where I can find this info? They are not in the original brochures.

224 M alloys (18inch)
108 alloys (18 inch split rim)
MV2 alloys (18inch)

I ask because I want to know if there’s any dynamic difference based on the alloys the car has on. (I use to have a 350z on lightweight forged OEM alloys, after originally having GT alloys on the car - the difference in feel was shocking (for the better). There was only 1-2kg difference between each alloy, but car felt significantly lighter on its feet after the change.

The only (18inch) Bmw OE wheelset of any noticeable weight loss are the staggered Style 32 , pretty much all the rest whether M sport or not weigh virtually the same ( not including X3 X5 rims )

18s in those photos. If I'm not mistaken they were also available as a 17 inch on some models as well. But I'm not sure if the offsets on the 17s would work on a Z4, but the 18s do.

Yes 17s were made but for some reason only the staggered 18s et 47 / et 50 were lightweight :?

I think they came in all sorts of sizes as they were fitted to E46s as well as some 5 Series models.

Ideally for a Z4 you probably want the staggered 18s from an E46 as they have the right offsets (same as 108s or MV2s). The 5 Series ones weren't staggered IIRC and need hub-centric rings to fit properly.
Coupes because stunning!

17" non-staggered Style 32's also fit, and are also light. I run a set as winter wheels. Look for Style 32's from an E46 3 Series and all will be good. Style 32's from 5 and 7 series have different offsets and might not fit.
