Braided lines.......quick question

Post by LittleZ4 » Fri May 25, 2018 6:56 am

Morning all.

Just a quick one. I'm doing the 330i brake upgrade, do I need to order braided lines for an E46 or braided lines for the zed. Only asking as on kit has 4 lines (E46), the other has 6 (e85).

I assume the extras are for the clutch?? I guess the next question is are braided clutch lines worth it??

Believe the Zed has 2 rubber parts per rear brake.

Remember the facelift 3.0si has the same brakes as the E46 330i, so just buy a kit for the facelift. I don't even know if there's any difference, the brake caliper fittings will be the same it's just a few mm further out from the hub.

Let me know how you get on with the rears, I want to get single lines and cut out the stupid tiny bit of pipe on the arm.

As Steve says, the other option is to replace the 3 pieces at the rear (hose, short hard line and another hose) with a single hose, thereby eliminating 2 joints that may fail at the same time.

As mentioned the zeds have 6 rubber hoses as oem, 1 for each caliper at the front and two for each caliper at the rear. I got Hel to make up a single rear brake line long enough to replace the two oem rears. Only issue is not being able to use the oem bracket half way along the rear hose. I wouldnt buy the e46 kit as the hoses might not be the correct length

I ordered from Hel. I called them and just told them to replace the rear lines with the a single iirc 740mm long. This fits from the fixed pipe attached to the wheel arch through the original path to the caliper. As mentioned above the only issue is that the oem bracket which is where the two oem hoses join is a bit too small for the grommet to fit.
you can build up the hoses on the Hel website now, although the prices seem to have gone up from 4 years ago when i got mine. 4 hoses for £75.

The rear hoses are hard pipe and then two rubber hoses. the braided hose replaces the two rubber hoses.

So concensous is Z4 kit over the E46. I completely forgot the 3.0si has those brakes. I'll have a look at those as well.

Cheers guys as always it's most appreciated

Thread revival
Steve did you get the rear lines done in single piece,
As I'm doing the 330 upgrade on the front
An I can't find a listing for si hoses for the front
But if I can just give them sizes for front any rear that might be the way to go

Skelters,
I don’t suppose I could get a copy of your order could I? I’ve been to the custom page and it’s way over my head. I’ve also got a 2007 3.0Si (that link you pasted is no longer working, hence the ask)

Cheers.

Hey thanks for that, any ideas if they’re the same between 2.5Si and 3.0Si?

700 is a bit short no? I’m sure someone else mentioned 740? Fitting was fine?

They did fit - the below was the guidance that lead me down that route...

Did you make them up as per this then?

Image

I note the person on the thread said "With an overall length of 700mm, rather than 720mm and the 'small circlip nut' installed the opposite way around, these would have been miles easier to install!"

Would you agree? Have them made up any differently?
