quick VANOS solenoid question

Post by TF747 » Sat May 19, 2018 1:34 pm

So i'm pretty sure that my VANOS solenoid(s) are done i'm getting all the symptoms. Lack of low end torque, dodgy idle and a couple of P0012 codes. Probably no big deal but my car only has 48000 miles on it. Is this normal?
It's on a 2.5si
Thanks guys!

Both intake and exhaust codes? Not common but maybe failures related to age rather than mileage.
Give them a clean and an oil change if you want to, but expect it to come back again.

Nah it's just one of them, had the P0012 come and go a couple of times. No P0015 though.
I suppose it probably is due to age. Also the car has barely been driven in past few years so could that attribute to the clogging up of the solenoids?

Would think so, defo worth doing oil changes more frequently than schedule

You can clean them but it usually doesn't last for long. Don't feel the need to replace both, the other one might last a good while and they're easy to do, if only a bit fiddly.

Yeah cheers, i'm gonna swap them and clean them first to double check that it's definitely the problem and then replace what I need to after that!
