Sell or store??
Just canvassing opinions on whether to sell or take off the road for a couple of year's to keep miles off and see where values go while I lease something. It's an e86 with 96k, probably worth around 8k at the mo, had it 3 years and just fancy something different and more practical but don't want to sell if it will go up in value... What would you do??

Really can't see it rising in value but (assuming its a well specced & well sorted example) if it is possible to store it will save you the hassle of finding another one down the line there really is little else out there in the category that still retains the kudos , looks & performance for the buy in price & imo relatively cheap to run too

If you don't need the money, keep it. If you ever need the £s it's there to sell and may well have increased. That's my philosophy with mine.

Keep it, lots of fun for the money. It"ll never be a biggie as regards investment but still fun all day long. I looked at selling my e85 3.0i but the offers were like s**t so it was either keep it as extra or split it or give to the kids, I"m still driving it as a daily.

Not long sold my mk2 RS2000 for £26+ and a standard 2 door MK1 for over £10K. These were bought in the early 90s for hundreds not thousands.
Worth storing imo.

I would sell it and enjoy something new. You can always buy another in a few years. There are so many about that they are pretty unlikely to sore in value, in the next several years.

Just drive it and have fun, it already has a high milage so will never be something someone is prepared to spend big on.JimBob78 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 6:34 pm Just canvassing opinions on whether to sell or take off the road for a couple of year's to keep miles off and see where values go while I lease something. I think its unlikely to increase in value in the next few years, just keep depreciating. However if you could keep it longer term, say 10 years you only have to look at how Z3 value are going to see what might happen. That said its a big risk and certainly no guarantee and my personal opinion is the whole classic/older car market is currently massively overvalued and on the turn.

Thanks for the input guys, i don't want to sell really as it just feels special, but I dont really want the cost of storing and insuring a car if it's just gonna lose more value. If it cost me nothing then would be a no brainer but just doesn't add up financially...
Knowing my luck I'll sell it and it'll double in value in 2 years!

+1
But you never know when the prices start to increase... My '86 e23 728 has only just started to gain in value over the last few years... So it may be that you have to store it for even longer!

Take a look at the global position right now with Trump making friends in N Korea and Iran. Nothing is worth holding onto right now if you ask me. Sorry to sound like the proverbial sooth sayer but if you don't really want to hang on let go and buy another later if you hit the mid life crisis. I could be wrong but I have no idea how the USA plans to reduce a 25 trillion dollar debt without shaking the tree planted in 1945.
