Amber handbrake light
I have dusted the car down for summer but still have the amber handbrake warning light permanently lit when the car is running . The code fault is 5DCA hydraulic unit pressure sensor internal fault. I believe the sensor cannot be accessed and I will need a new hydraulic unit which is only available as an OEM part. Cost approx £1700 plus 4hrs labour.
Should I try and get this component from a scrap dealer do u think.? Any thought or assistance would be appreciated or am I going to have to take a hit on this. I can have a new clutch fitted for less than this it’s ridiculous

That is steep? I would definitely be ringing around scap yards. Whit something thats not a common fault you might get lucky and pick up a unit for a more bearable price.

I’m guessing the fault is in the ABS unit which lots of companies will repair for a fraction of that cost.

This BMW DSC/ABS unit is well known for faults (mine included, although mine was stuck brushes, easy fix, cost about £150). plenty of businesess can fix either the control unit, or the pump. You should not need to pay for a new unit

An independent dealer should be able to do that & send it for repair for a lot less cash than your original quotemarypoppins wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 12:30 pmIf i could remove it i would, unfortunately i am not mechanically mindedpatriot66 wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 7:00 am Remove your ABS unit and send it to http://www.ecutesting.com/

Yes i have. I have just been informed by the garage that mine is irreparable. Nearly 2k as part is £1700 from BMW!. I will have to investigate if this is the case. I they are taking the p..s there is going to be a serious argument!I am now considering getting shut of the car.The common faults are expensive and poor on these vehicles. Springs, roof motor and this. 06 car with 16,000 on the clock and the repair is going to cost me a third of the value of the car.Absolute boll....ks!!!!

I've just had my pump done by ECU testing. Local mechanic took it off, sent it away and refitted it. A fraction of the cost of BMW. Take a note of the serial number and give ECU testing a ring to check they can fix it, I'm pretty sure they will be able to.
