Bit of technical advice to fix some niggles.

Post by rwinstanley85 » Sun Apr 22, 2018 12:44 am

Want to get my car in order for summer . Below are some issues that I am not sure how to solve. Any advice much appreciated . 03 plate 3L

My tyre pressure red light exclaimation light has come on again, dealer reset it a few weeks ago and said it’s just tire pressure .. why does it do this and what is the permanent fix ?

I have powered wing mirrors - the button works & they fold in & out as they should - but the button for adjusting the mirror glass doesn’t work they don’t move at all.... what could this be? Also I read the heated mirrors are on all the time but mine are stone cold ... could it be I don’t have heated mirrors even though they are electric powered ? Is it easy to fit heated mirrors as a retro fit .

My left window doesn’t go down via the passenger door, but does work fine using the drivers buttons / what does this sound like the problem is ?

My left door handle is stiff and hard to open from the outside ... what should I apply to loosen it up ?

My horn doesn’t work - previous owner snapped a bit of the wiring look when changing wheels - I have a new loom but how do I take the wheel/or cover off to replace this part ?

My brake pad sensor light is on - previous owner assured that brake pads are fine - just he snapped a sensor when changing the wheels over . How do I know which wheel it is that is causing the light to come on ? I have a new sensor to fit, just not sure how to do it .

My seat occupancy light is on - again this is because it has had E46 M seats put in it - I’m told to play with the yellow block under the seat to make sure it’s right but so far the light is still on... any ideas ?

My ashtray is stuck wide open - it’s as if the spring is broke or something — how easy is it to get this part out and try repair ?

My handbrake isn’t very good... I notice it rolls back quite a lot on a hill & I need to leave in gear ... does it just need tightening ?

My headlights are foggy - what’s the best thing to sort this out ? Will a headlight kit now do anything ? I have 6000k hid xenons fitted .

I’m a newbie - does it need servicing every year or just wait for the bmw light to come on? I say this because I only do about 2-3000 miles a year . What’s the difference between inspection 1 & 2 and how do I know which one I need this time round ?

My drivers fog light is smashed - is it east replace them myself ?

It has E46 M electric sports seats fitted - I want heated seats .... I know the 03 has the loom to add heated seats and I can buy a new panel facia for the dash - but will it now not require a loom kit for a E46 seat? What’s the best way for me to retro fit ? I don’t want to get new seats .

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

I got tired reading that. It’s all fixable. Most of it simple. A bit of programming for the window issues, headlights need sealed properly, seats might be a bit of a bugger. Better changing the seats.
Hopefully someone more knowledgable than myself will come in and help you out a bit more than my limited knowledge can.
Oh, and welcome to the forum. Pictures of your motor are mandatory. :poke:

You are most welcome. When I did my rear handbrake I removed the disc , calipers and the drum so I could actually see what was going on with the adjustment mechanism.
