searched? Odd nothing came back as it's been covered and the various injuries people have sustained several times.
Best lower the softtop, sit in the middle and pull vertically. Remeber - it will hit you in the face!!!

Pull, pull more, pull lots, smack face, curse, bleed, wipe up excess blood, apply new gear knob.

Re: Removing the gear knob
I expected the worst when i cahanged mine this week but it really wasn't too bad. I sat in the drivers seat (LHD) and put it into second gear and slowly pulled while twisting slightly. I'm happy to say my face & lips are still unflawed as usual. I did have to pull hard, but it was a controlled effort.

I think knowing the worse prepares you to do the job properly and then rarely seems as hard as expected.
Incedentally if you twist an auto shift while removing it you break 2 small plines inside and once refitted it can then rotate. Guess how I found that out

Re: Removing the gear knob
wear a baseball catcher's outfit ... and then pull ... yes, top down would be better ... don't want to do a good job at missing your head, lips, jewels and then put a hole in the soft top ...

Re: Removing the gear knob
Sit in the seat with your strongest arm over the gear knob, grip with both hands, and look out of the closest side window.. As mentioned above, anything else leaves you with a story no-one will believe!

I'll have the pleasure of this in a few weeks time all being well. I'll make sure to take the advice on board, then send the Mrs out to have a go first!

You won't. Just make sure you DO NOT TWIST while pulling!
