I was dubious about these pumps I didn't think you'd get all the oil out.
Well how wrong was I , the easiest and cleanest oil change I've ever done. The longest time was waiting 20 minutes to do the engine flush, the rest was clean, quick and simple. Should have bought one years ago :D
Who makes that particular one? Looks like it holds a fair amount of oil.

P.s what do you do with the oil afterwards?

Sorry for the noob questions. I'd like to do my own oil changes but have never fancied the old fashioned method of removing the sump plug and getting covered in black stuff.

oil vacuum pump

Hi Ben
My one is a Sealy it holds 6:5 litres which is the amount for a 6 cylinder oil and filter change.

There are others on evilbay that hold 7 or 9 litres.

Carefully Pour the old oil into your old 4 litre oil bottle (you'll need a funnel if you haven't got one ) and the rest into milk or pop bottles.
Take it to the local recycle tip.

It's a doddle of a job from the sump but this saves getting the car on ramps and crawling underneath

I don't have a dip stick but use it all the time. Just goes down the fill hole!

Surely the tube doesn’t reach down to the sump via the filler cap, does it? :o
Rob
I'd like to know the answer to this question! Can't see how the tube will reach down to the bottom of the sump....Brill if it does!

I do this too, some of our cars don't have dipsticks so I keep the old oil containers so I can fully decant all the old oil. Take to the dump when full. Just remember which bottles are old oil! No good topping up with old oil!!

How on earth can you reach the sump from the fill hole... isn't, you know, the engine in the way?! I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I've been using something identical to this on my other cars

It works really well and one advantage is that you can pump directly from sump to container. No decanting from pump into container.

However, with no dipstick hole to poke the suction pipe down, I don't see how I can use it on mine. Might be back to the old fashioned way, crawling under the car for me :(

If anyone finds a decent and reliable way to use a pump on the N52 I'd love to know.

Still a bit dubious about these although accept garages have been doing it this way for a long time but mainly it saves them time and therefore increases profits. The sump plug is magnetic and therefore attracts any minute particles which you wipe clean but obviously cannot do this with the suction method. Also oil at the bottom of the sump can become a bit thicker particularly on higher mileage worn engines or if oil changes are less frequent. When you warm the engine and undo the sump plug the flow of oil coming out is meant to bring this thicker oil out as well. Conversely, the diameter of the vacuum pump is much smaller than the sump plug and flow up the pipe will not be equivalant to flow out of the sump.
However you pay your money and take your choice. I find getting are armful of warm oil rather enjoyable.

I can’t see how you could easily find a path down into the sump tbh.

Could be possible but I doubt it as internal oilway into sump is unlikely to be immediately below filler plug.

I only use the pump for interim oil changes really. It goes into the indi when it’s ‘service is due’ so he can do it the conventional way, along with anything else that needs addressing.

3 cars done this week, very very easy and clean.

Old oil went into friends Citroen! better than the air previously fitted! Rest goes to the tip
now I'm about to have more time I've suddenly got less toys to play with!
