Koni ssk sport vs bilstein b12

Post by Kierandc5 » Sat Mar 17, 2018 3:20 pm

So I'm looking into replacing my cars 40mm fk lowering springs with a complete damper and spring chang too either koni ssk sport or bilstein b12.

The type of driving I'm doing its weekend based so very limited miles I would 50% dual carriage ways, 45% back roads and 1-2 trackdays a year.

So the question being what's the best way forward im personally wanting the softer of the 2 as I have had 32 way adjustable coilovers on my dc5 and on a bumpy back road I would not be able too keep up with a 1.0 corsa "driving ability questionable"

Both are pretty much the same price but I think I'm right in saying the koni is 4 way adjustable.

The b12 are very popular combo on here but alot state its quite harsh so I interested in opinions regarding both.

The koni is the softer of the 2. I asked the same question to a guy at balance motorsport and he said that for daily driving, the koni's are softer and more forgiving.

Out of curiosity what set did you go for and any regrets if so?

I use my car as a daily commuter and was going to go for the Bilstein B12 until I read about the harshness of them.

I've now gone for B4's and eibach springs, to give me the look I want, but allowing me some ride comfort whilst travelling to and from work during the week.

I've never done a trackday and have no interest in doing one in my Z4, so B12's/Koni's would be wasted on me

See that could be an option also as I'm not racing just going out for some legal fun so lap times ain't an issue. In your opinion would you say the b4 dampers are a slight increase over oem even though they are an oem replacement

I've only just received them and haven't fitted them yet, but other members have fitted them and say the ride quality is much improved over their tired oem shocks.

Going to be fitting mine during the course of this week (hopefully)!

Let us know how you get on; mine has just ticked over 100k and I'm looking at doing this. I too use mine as a daily, and at the minute it's causing me a level of back pain...
