Gearbox oil change
Hi all it’s been a while since I have posted on here haven’t really done much to the car over Xmas due to weather and being busy at work, I have been wondering if it is worth changing out my gear box oil for fresh as the car is at 85000 and I am unsure if it has ever been changed so was looking into doing it soon also wondering how difficult it is to change the oil as have never changed any gearbox oil myself on any car.
Cheers Matt.

Definitely do it. I had mine done on Saturday and the box is much smoother now.MT94 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2018 1:37 pmHi all it’s been a while since I have posted on here haven’t really done much to the car over Xmas due to weather and being busy at work, I have been wondering if it is worth changing out my gear box oil for fresh as the car is at 85000 and I am unsure if it has ever been changed so was looking into doing it soon also wondering how difficult it is to change the oil as have never changed any gearbox oil myself on any car.

Gearbox oil change
The Gearbox and diff are supposed to be 'lifetime fluids' however, the consensus here is its worth doing - definitely at your mileage.

Definitely worth doing it - I had mine done at 81,000 miles and it does feel better.
I also fitted a ZHP gear-knob which may have helped!

Coupes because stunning!

Mine is at 93k so thinking about changing the gearbox oil too. Did you go with standard BMW oil?
I used redline mt90 in gearbox oil changes on previous jap cars and was very impressed with the result, has anyone used this in the Z4 or is it not suitable?

Also discussed here. Redline mix oil, CDV removal and Stormworks gear knob made my change much better and reduced notchiness.

Also got mine changed to Redline MT90, its a GL4 75W90 so fine to use, although the mechanic did say it was probably overkill and the cheaper stuff would work fine.
However I have noticed that the notchyness when cold has improved vastly, so to me the extra few quid was worth it.
[edit]
I had Redline 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil put into the diff.
[edit2]
You will need 2 quarts of both.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely go for the gearbox oil next time my car is in the garage. Did you notice much difference with changing the diff oil?

You're unlikely to notice anything with the diff but it is still worth it from a purely mechanical perspective. I'm aiming for a 30k box and 60k diff interval.
