ML quoted me £360 for the following work:
  • Engine oil and filter
  • Coolant flush
  • Gearbox oil change
  • Differential oil change
A bit steep or about right?

Price the Oils, filter and Coollant and you'll be left with a rough idea of labour costs.

They may have been wearing a mask while giving you the costs!

I literally just asked about the cost of these and resurrected an old thread, then spotted this one :)

Just asked two local but well respected Indies around here for gearbox and oil change, both wanted around £400 for it. Seemed a lot to me!

:police: literally criminal, 30 mins work if a little messy filling the diff. Same price from both? Cartels... Even if you say £150 for the oil and filter... how much for the gearbox?!

Indeed truly nonsense just for those 2 tasks  i always supply own fluids so engine oil 6 litre approx £40 / gearbox 1.2litre ( have to buy 2 litres ) £22 & diff oil the same around £22 so around £100 for fluids & oil filter ?
Labour for the above i wouldn't expect to pay more than £150 at a decent indy who isn't charging dealer rates , the VAT is a kick in the gooleys around £50- £60 so id say anywhere around £300 all done give or take 15 % would be fair ?

But ML are down here in Sussex, not Up North where labour rates are much more reasonable...

I don't know if it helps but I had an oil service, Insp 1, brake fluid change and gearbox oil change on my E86 last June 17 by TWG Automotive Ltd in Camberley (who are down Sarf)! for £293.51 including VAT.

(Will the Principal and at least 1 of his technicians are ex-Sytner and a couple of others on here use them).

Will said changing the diff oil could get expensive as it doesn't have a drain plug, so if mine ever dies I'll probably just go to Birds and invest in a Quaife LSD!

Good luck getting yours done OP - a Montego Coupe deserves only the best of treatment after all!

And while I don't want to put you off, I've seen a couple of less than positive reviews of Munich Legends - one on here and one on another forum.

I hate slating people’s work / giving bad reviews but I was not impressed by Munich legends at all when I went earlier this year. I was sat in their waiting area for 3 hours before deciding to kill the other hour in the pub next door.

The first hour was spent sitting on their forecourt with the entire workforce waiting for someone to drop the keys to the building off.

The next two hours were spent adjusting my passenger window as it had the most minuscule air leak imaginable. I only asked them to look at it as I thought they may as well do it whilst the car was there. They said it needed new seals as the window was on max adjustment. 15 minutes tinkering when I got home and I’d sorted it.

The next hour was for an MOT that they subbed out to a garage in Nutley and charged me the maximum allowed for a test. That’s not their fault - I should have checked if they are an approved testing station but I feel they could have told me they would be driving my car else where.

They have some gorgeous cars for sale and the garage has big potential. It’s just a shame that they can’t seem to back up their price tag with a decent service.

No drain plug? That’s nuts.

Yes a Quaife is probably the next big mod for me but won’t be doing it til next year.

I’ve got the car booked in for Saturday so will post a review once the work is done.

That’s a shame to hear that. I’ve arranged for a courtesy car so I don’t have to wait around whilst the work is being done.

Hopefully it’s the new M4 CS :driving:

I paid less than £400 for an Inspection 2 and brake fluid change at a BMW main dealer recently

Bear in mind that BMW have cheaper rates for older cars on servicing .. think the rates drop at 4 years then again at seven years

So not as expensive as you’d think
