Alloys need attention

Post by csquire4 » Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:39 pm

In Essex I had 4 badly corroded 17" 103 alloys stripped (acid I think), powder coated and painted in standard silver (including tyre removal and replaced with my new tyres) for £250. I was happy with finish and 18 months on they seem to be holding up OK www.paintituk.co.uk

I think £250 -£280 is standard in the south east.

Lepsons are well respected, my local bodyshop uses then for Ferrari, Lambourghini and other exotics, probably a bit pricey for a Z4.

I'm paying £500 for 107s with Exel Wheels.

The pics on the Exel Wheels FB page do look very very good... I always try find JIL markings or writing etc to see how well details are preserved.
Interesting judgement point of view  £500 for a refurb on plain one colour alloys is pretty whefty so expectations must be high mr Whippy

I had a set chemically stripped then powdercoated at weekend for a fraction of £500 , would they pass the markings / writing test :P
Looks good, any close ups of the bolt hole recesses, and tight corners?
Also any markings on the wheel fronts?

How does the clear coat look up close on the faces etc?

I'll be honest there may be good cheaper places, but you've still got to find them, get the car there, leave it for days, then go get it.
Suddenly you're another £100 down in driving and travel costs.

The devil is in the details, few refurb places paste their pics all over FB with detail shots and happy customers.

I'm guessing Lepsons do him trade prices but also do the job to his higher spec, and he takes about £160 for his trouble.

If I get perfection I'm happy.

If not I'll be asking for money off and/or posting honest feedback so everyone can see what you do/don't get for your money.

Can't say fairer than that.
