Z4 isn't loud enough

Post by Johnr32 » Fri Jan 19, 2018 6:35 pm

Ok so I've had a back box delete and removed the entire foam in my sound generator for about a year now but I'm getting bored as the sound isn't loud enough for me.

Would it be worth while to remove my secondary cat? Has anyone had any experience with removing the secondary cat and muffler?

Two options if no backbox isn't loud enough.

1. Go for a hearing test.
2. Sell the Z and buy a 63AMG

That doesn't sound too much louder than what I have atm. Either that or the video doesn't do it any justice.

start removing sound insulation is your next step in making it louder. I'd recommend an ear test before you get too drastic though

Would of thought straight pipe would be seriously loud. Probably your best bet for more sound.

I'll talk to my exhaust shop. If I don't like it then I suppose it can always go back on.

Or as mentioned, I need this in my life.

What kind of engine do you have...? For example, you can't expect a 2.0 to sound like an M3... I've had the 2.2i, the 2.5i and now a 3.0si and all sound different, and surely, the bigger the engine, the louder it gets. I now have an eisenmann backbox with mid muffler delete and really happy with the sound. Oh and I even have a hearing problem.

It's the m54 mate. I'm basically nit picking because I'm bored of the z4 and have to save up for a flat so can't just splash out 20-30k on something special.

If straight pipes aren't doing it, maybe side pipes and piping with a larger diameter? Open headers?

I know what you mean mate. I would really like to own an m6. That s85 with decat and straight pipes is to die for.
