Me again, back on the colour trail...

Post by thanatu55 » Wed Jan 03, 2018 4:50 pm

I posted a topic recently with regards to changing the colour of my seats and door cards and it proved to be very useful so thanks to everyone who took the time to contribute.

Although the results were quite mixed I've decided blue is the way to go. If anyone isn't familiar with what I'm talking about I'm looking at doing something like this:

Now as for the colour, whereas I thought I could just provide them with a colour code and have them mix it as they do with their smaller applications, it's turned out to be a little more complicated and they have told me if I can provide them with a sample they will match it for me. So I've had a quick browse through some furniture and leather stores online and requested samples from those that offer it (I didn't mention that I won't be purchasing anything from them).

Whilst there are still a few more to come, these turned up today and I'm wondering what peoples thoughts are. Do you think the bluer the better, or do you think a more subtle blend of blue is the way to go?

Colours from left to right : Top - Mondial Blue, Lady Blue, Ultramarine Blue / Bottom - Purple Blue, Navy Blue

As I Say, I'm still waiting for some more samples to arrive.

Personally I'd be wary of putting blue leather in a blue car - it'll be too much, and you run the risk of looking like you're trying to match the external paint colour. Contrasting colours look better imho.

What he said. Too much blue and IMO Sports seats just look good as they are..

Hi,

I would put a cream or light gray colour rather than blue for enhanced contrast

Point considered, you'd be in the 42% group then. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=102493

I'm still considering my options (ie doing it or not doing it at all) but the colour samples are useful to me to make my mind up. :)

At least is not the 4,2% one
Good idea to go for samples! Are you thinking of dyeing the leather or replacing the panels?

Haha I notice the pearl grey just got an extra vote

It would mean dying it if I went ahead with it. I got some sample dyes too when I was considering lighter colours just to see how it covered and it worked great. The idea wasn't mine to be honest, I robbed it off IAmOrion who did his in red. I wish I could go red but I don't think it would look right in a blue car :(

Z4Pilot has a good point - the blue will never quite match the paintwork and could look too much and a failed combo
And as for red seats not working in a blue car - If its a dramatic look you are after it kinda works imo:

I like the red seats in the blue car but would need to be with the red door cards as well, for me there's something slightly odd about the top picture either because of the door cards being black or the shade of red used.
