Difference Between the z4 35i and 35is

Post by Z4MAD » Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:51 pm

To the aficionado's of Z4s this may seem an unusual question, but could someone explain, please, what the differences are between the z4 35i and the Z4 35is (I am aware that the 35is has more power via a twin turbo) but other than that I am unable to establish whether there are other differences.

I thank you in anticipation of your help and assistance.

With kind regards,

MAD

No expert here in but suspension is one while 35i can be manual or auto but 35iS is auto only.

35i seem to be SE spec while 35iS are normally M Sport

Thats where my knowledge stops

35is has adaptive suspension as standard, extra bhp due to overboost,(both can be remapped to the same bhp), only available with DCT gearbox, (no manual), “is” on door cill plates(edit “m” on cill not “is”), logo on instrument display and on mats, possibly sports steering wheel, think that’s about it everything else is an option

Silver wing mirror caps on the 35is, I think they help it slip through the air quicker.

Two differences that have been overlooked:
Bragging rights and cost :)

PS: @MAD; sorry to see you're back on the medication, judging by the composition of the first post :D

Bragging rights? I think anyone on here bragging about having the 35is would quickly be drowned under a sea of:

"35i plus remap is better"
"You paid for some marketing scam"
"20i plus remap is better"

Difference Between the z4 35i and 35is

Post by Z4MAD » Sun Sep 26, 2021 12:58 pm

Dear Comrades,

It is my understanding, although perhaps erroneously so, that the BMW Z4 35is has twin superchargers; does the BMW Z4 35i not have the superchargers, and is this the aspect that makes the difference in power which the BMW Z4 35is has over and above that of the BMW Z4 35i?

It has also been mentioned that the BMW Z4 35is has different suspension than the BMW Z4 35i, should this be the case, may I be advised, please, what the differences are?

This is a serious enquiry; therefore I should be most appreciative that those of an contrarian nature should resist the temptation to respond.

Thank you and kind regards,

MAD

They both have N54 twin turbo lumps, no superchargers on a BMW. They are twin turbos, not twin-scroll single like the 4 cylinders. As said above the only difference is the engine map.
The 35is has adjustable hydraulics (little pumps) in the dampers. These alter the damping rate depending on the driving 'mode' selected.
IIRC they were an option on (all?) other models but were very expensive so not many have them (also very expensive if they go wrong).
NB All the above is information gleaned from the forum as I know feck all.

When I looked at it there were only a very small number of items that a 35is must have that didn’t occur elsewhere..

The speedo marked with 35is

The car mats marked with 35is

340 bhp ish vs 304 bhp plus an overboost function for 7 seconds

Louder exhaust

That’s it..

Everything else was not necessarily mandated and or could be deleted

So silver mirror caps were not present on all 35is

Badges could be deleted

So a 35i needs a 35is speedo, car mats and exhaust plus a software reload to become the minimum case 35is assuming it has adaptive suspension and a DCT box.

Chicks dig the ‘is’. They throw themselves onto the bonnet, through the windows. It’s the ultimate babe magnet. After every drive, I end up in bed with a hottie. That never happens with the ‘i’.
