What is your engine's mileage?
While you were there, did you not attempt to clean the idle control valve? I hear they get quite dirty and causes issues at low engine loads at low revs
Thanks, Spaniarduk
The car has done 44,500 miles. I had intended to do the control valve as well but hadn't realised that the hose clips around the IDV are of the non-reusable type so I stopped; also, the car does have a "rock-steady" idle and decide to adopt the approach "if it's not broken don't fix it".
Having said that, I discovered that the bracket that holds the airbox could do with a bit of TLC to eliminate a few spots of rust...I might remove the airbox again to re-spray the bracket and clean the IDV while I am there

hahaha. That's my motto most times! I can't say I don't agree lol
What were your symptoms? What led you to clean the TBs??
Also, the circular clips that secure the author to the 6 throttle bodies are, in theory, non-reusable. What did you used to replace those 6 when you put it all back together??

Finally got around to pulling Fuse 40 so I don't get stripes from the headlight washers any more, seeing as I've got the 1 candle-power Halogen lights!
Coupes because stunning!

I decided to clean the TBs following the "diagnosis" of an independent garage that suggested that the slight hesitation when accelerating from below 2,000 rpm was likely due to dirty TBs.
I didn't know the circular clips were "single use" !! I re-used them: they worked perfectly!
I saw a video where they were re-used and one where they were replaced by ordinary jubilee clips...I guess it makes the whole operation a lot easier!
Let me know if you are going to do the job: I think it did improve the low-end response (or at least it feels like it)

Attilio, in my case if feels like lacking power at just below 2000rpm and at about 2600rpm. Going past those spots if feels like a surge in power. Sometimes and depending on engine load it is more obvious than others. I try to 'drive around it', but it is a little frustrating. I was starting to think my Vanos needed attention... interesting to hear about your experience

I was confident there was something to be checked in the Vanos because of the faint rattle I could hear when on partial load and steady revs. All hesitations and "torque kick" at 2,500 and 4,500 rpm disappeared after the Vanos refurbishment.Spaniarduk wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:33 am Attilio, ive got exactly that. What the cleaning of the TBs seems to have achieved is that has made the engine pick up very smoothly and strongly from just above idle in pretty much every gear.
There seems to be a slight torque flat spot with a resonance/drone from the exhaust (perfectly stock) around 2,000 rpm. I wonder if it's the air filter (never changed at the service by BMW in February ). Will order a new one, fit it and report back. I'm actually tempted to change the fuel filter too; after all the car is 12 years old...
