Re: Removing the gear knob
Now you can see why personal injury is a common problem...
You've gotta put some real effort into this, only then you become a member of the 'gearknob club'

Re: Removing the gear knob
Why am I now worried about removing my gearnob
Quick hijack: is there a certain standard diameter of shaft that gearnobs fit, or is every manufacturer different? I suppose what I'm asking is, would other (non-BMW) gearnobs fit onto the Z4's shaft?
I've got something in mind but undecided if it'll look good or not though.
Cheers

Re: Removing the gear knob
Yea just pull!
Mine won't stay ON every time I get into some really spirited driving it comes off in my hands!!
I don't have to saw the wires are starting to take a bit of wear from it.
So I guess my question is, how do I get it to stay on??

Re: Removing the gear knob
I have done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the best way to do it is to put one foot on drivers seat and one on passengers and pull away. However I did almost fall back over the rollover bars

Re: Removing the gear knob
So you were actually standing on both seats with the roof down when you pull the gear knob out. Was it easy to put the new one in?ChillZ4 wrote:I have done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Standing on the seats is also the perfect way to damage pressure sensors and heated seat pads where fitted

Crikey it isn't that difficult!
As anyone who has met me will know, I'm no Schwarzenegger but I've done 2 now with no breakages or injuries!
I got a ZHP for my Z4 last year (luckily, seeing as you can't get them now) and earlier this year I got an E91 that has the same horrible OEM one as the Z4 had - so I've replaced that with an "aliexpress" special for less than a tenner!
