Cdv removal clutch delay valve OMG!

So today had the cdv removed from both my z4 and e46 320cd. All I can say is wow! Ive been driving bmws for ten years and always struggle with setting off and 1st to second as the car kangaroos without perfect clutch operation.

With the valve removed - engagement is instant! It's like driving a differnt car! So smooth and refined especially on the e46 as it used to take loads of revs to set off now it just sets off by letting the clutch out.

Anyway just thought I'd share and get in touch with Mike (Ducklakeview) who can take care of this for you in around 10 minutes and for a few beer tokens!

I too think the CDV delete makes a big difference to 1st and 2nd changes and am always puzzled when others have the mod and say there's little or no difference :scratchhead:

Yeah totally! I honestly think it's one of the biggest improvements I've done

Nice. Massive difference on the non-M. Bit like runflats really - crazy the car came from the factory with them! I can understand the need to protect the drivetrain, but it just feels lazily over-done.

A big improvement was noticed when I did mine, like night and day, just wondered why it took you so long Jamie ....

Interesting... Is it not that noticeable on the m then MrPT?

iirc the hole size in the valve on the m is larger so there is less difference between the valve been there and no valve at all.... waits to be corrected

Makes sense I couldn't belive how tiny the hole was! Like a pin prick!

Sounds about right, was no where near as pronounced on my old M3.

P.S. You need to water proof your roof, it is saturated.

The outer layer of the roof ISN'T meant to be waterproof. Treating it and making it so causes it to stiffen and not fold properly.

It was proofed but I just tried cleaning more moss off it. It's 150k miles tho so it's a bit past it's best tbh lol

Never heard that before. I use Autoglym on mine and the water beads off nicely and gives no problems folding, as I am sure is the case with many others. Much rather have mine protected than it being soaking wet all winter.

Meh a saturated roof is the least of my worries. The chassis has probably been halved in thickness from smashing speed bumps

Been meaning to do this to mine ever since buying it, nearly 6 years ago

I'm always a bit worried it'll cause a failure somewhere in the drivetrain though.

Nah mate it's there for nobs who don't know how to drive bmws n end up doing the clutch and engine mounts in. You'll be fine!

Is the cdv on the SMG as it is a manual gearbox?

No, because there is no manually operated clutch pedal in an SMG car. CDV is only there to provide some protection if a driver dumps the clutch (pedal) quickly.

I keep meaning to do this, it sounds like such a cheap and cheerful little mod for a big pay off.

I agree with this too. Since moving from runflats to decent tyres, despite lowering the back end a little the ride is so much more comfortable now! It feels like I've actually got some suspension.
