sl500 test drive

Post by gib6933 » Wed Apr 09, 2008 6:17 pm

Well I had a test drive in a sl500 today and I was very disappointed! but very happy to get back into my zed.
It was just a very comfy motorway curser and completely detached form the driving experience. It did have a lot of cool gadgets that would keep you occupied for abut 30min but as soon as you actually started to go anywhere it was dull. I could imagine getting in and then arriving at your destination as if by teleport, that is if you make it there and not fall asleep the moment you shut the door.

I was very disheartened as I thought it would replace my zed and feel like a slightly bigger, folding metal roof, 5 litre z4. But instead it was a smaller, lower, 2 seater, convertible, floaty range rover

Very much a boulevard cruiser when compared with a Z. I recall a supplier having that exact model in the US as not being overly impressed given its cost.

Should accelerate nicely though with a 400hp V8

there is no denying it is a beautiful car, but i've heard the same about the driving experience.

Try an SLK (350 preferably), much more closely related to the Z4 than the SL is. TBH anything less than a new SL63 AMG just wouldn't do.
