Alpina B3, M3 and M4

Post by BeeEmm » Sun May 09, 2021 12:38 pm

I had a 1 hour drive in an Alpina B3 this morning. Correction, 1 hour of pure fun! This car is so fast and growls and pops in Sport Plus mode. The road holding is fantastic and as a result the cornering speeds can be high. All this from an unassuming estate (touring) car.
While at the showroom I saw an M4 and M3. The green M3 is a customer car. I love the colour of the car and also love the upholstery colour, but together?
To me both cars look fantastic with their broad shoulders (hips) and new style grills. The grills have definatly won me over. The rear end must be one of the best I have seen. The line of the car is beautiful and I am duty have another drive.

Thanks for the pics. I'm also a fan of the new M3/M4 and they do look really good in the metal I reckon.

The B3 is impressively rapid, I read that it went faster round the Nurburgring than a 997 turbo.

The B3 or B5 would be my dream family car.

My problem with the M3/M4 is the same as with pretty much all new performance cars. The styling is just too busy and too angry - it seems like the designers don't know when to stop (or the meaning of the word "elegant"). Perhaps the issue comes from the fact that the way these cars drive is less dramatic (if faster and more capable) than their predecessors so they try to add more drama to the appearance instead.

I was dubious about the new grill but they do look ok in the pics, I also like the green but think black would be a better interior colour than tan :)

I was looking at one last week, the blue and grey leather combo looked really well. I too like the green

Just think the new front ends are over worked, way too much going on and the proportion of grill and shape to rest of car is wrong. Reminds me of 'trying too hard' honda civics
2.0 m sport (suspension / steering wheel/scuff plates) cupholders sapphire black with factory hard top. Needs a little tlc but loving it.

I think for double the cost of an average 3 or 4 series they should have more "sticky out bits" to set them further apart from the crowd tbh. For that sort of money I think they should have rocket launchers and strobing neons :D

That green, to me, is a "showroom" colour. Looks great all shiny under the showroom lights. I wonder what it looks like on the M6 on a rainy Tuesday in February? :(

Got to love an Alpina; the "gentleman's M".
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

    F31 320i. Good car.

Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
    Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

A vote for this as the next Bond car then...rocket launchers would be just one of the options !!
