Ford Sierra. How much??

This Sierra Cosworth was auctioned yesterday at Mathewsons (the lot from Bangers and Cash).
https://mathewsons.co.uk/auctions/aucti ... -cosworth2

Have a guess what it sold for (before fees)!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Ford Sierra. How much??

When I first saw it I was interested in submitting a bid. I (naively) thought I would pay about £18k for it as it is. It will need at least £15k to get it back to an acceptable roadworthy level. That would make about £30-35k on the road. I thought that was a lot so didn't bother. OK so it's got 12k miles but it's been stuck in a barn for 26 years and not looked after in that time.

It sold for £55,000 plus fees :o :o
This bubble in "modern classics" has got to burst one day soon.

I watch Bangers and Cash and wish I still owned some of the cars I once did. I had a droop snout RS 2000, an RS Mexico, a bug eyed sprite and an MG TD to name but a few.

And it's a Sapphire, they are no where near as desirable or valuable as the 3 doors.

A 1987 3 door Cossie (not a 500) with a similar story, low mileage left in a barn for 28 years sold at auction two years ago for £89,000! :o

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If all those modern classics were still on the road and had been looked after, though, they would just be "old" cars and would not attract a premium.

BOTH. Auction houses are pretty cute, these days. The fees are split between the buyer and seller. It used to be that the seller paid the fees and the buyer just paid the hammer price. It was all changed a while ago, presumably as the fees for the seller were so high people were not entering their goods into the auctions. Remember car auctioneers are still car dealers, no matter how they like to dress it up. And we all know how they like to make a few quid.

Ford Sierra. How much??

Post by Argyll Andy » Sun Feb 07, 2021 2:56 pm

I reckoned about £50k (which is bonkers btw)

I sold a D plate 72k 3 door Moonstone with a blueprint engine for £7150 and a K plate White Sapphire 4x4 with 101k for £7950 (that was an ex polis car and hadn’t had the easiest life, worse after I’d had it )

That’s why I’m still working and not retired after sticking these, and many others, in a shed and wheeling them out now to fund my retirement :headbang:
G29 M40i Misano Blue all option packs (here for a while)
E89 35iS, Valencia Orange, Design Pure Traction pack (Gone to a good home)
    E89 23i sDrive, Silver (Gone)

The same week that interest rates pass 5% and the money goes back into ISA's and houses in Cornwall. Can't see these prices holding and there's going to be a few people getting burnt in the process - even on MK2 Escorts and alike!
