Decisions... decisions!

Nice choice - I look forward to seeing what you end up with! I was seriously considering a Boxster with similar requirements apart from wanting a manual. I was favouring an early 981 S, but also looked at a late 987 S. I just missed a very keenly priced 981 S that sold through an independent dealer at slightly over its asking price.

Thanks for the heads up. I have only been skulking around the dedicated Boxster site and there is not much on there ATM.
I would like a 981S but they are just fetching a bit too much money, as the 987.2 is the same car underneath.

The reason why I want a PDK is that the other "modes" work in sync with it, giving a much more useful delivery, apparently.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

A friend of mine has a 2008 987 and it’s a very competent car, quite different to a mark 2 Z4 though, not happy with your Zed?

Having read the whole thread I’m not quite sure I’m any wiser but I’m sure you’ll be able to rationalise your decision, whatever it is :tumbleweed:  :driving:

 My name is Andrew, yes. My nickname is Pond (it's a play on Andy Pandy, Pand, Pond don't ask me I didn't come up with it). I used to use Pond as my username on the web but if I upset anyone I would get called "pondlife" so changed it. :P

I do not make hasty decisions, though so yes I do ponder a lot :D

Not too bad for a "performance car". Obviously use quite a bit of fuel. Servicing intervals are every 20,000 or 2 years. Servicing is not cheap but who's is? Road tax is £330. Insurance for me is dirt cheap. I would say overall, unless something major went wrong, they don't cost much more than a modern Z4 to run.

I've decided to get an early 981S now. Makes more sense for the few extra grand to purchase as it's a newer model so should hold value better and it's a prettier car.

I think its a good call going for a 981. There was a thread on Pistonheads recently regarding running costs for a 981 Cayman. The general opinion seemed to be if you bought wisely then a budget £1500 per year, excluding fuel, would cover servicing, tax and insurance. Good luck with your search and keep us posted

Insurance for me and the wife, with limited mileage admittedly, is £200 a year! I have the benefit of being old, but not too old, no points, no claims and 25 years NCB.

Had a re-think (again)! :)

As we now have the Z4 and my Vulva V90 is going soon, that leaves only the Octavia as a family car (don't scoff it's a blo*dy good motor).
So a second 2 seater is a bit indulgent, as I can't use either to transport the family.
A 4 seater cab is the sensible way to go. So my latest "bright idea" is an M4 Competition cab. Ticks all the boxes. There are loads to choose from. The depreciation is a worry, but it's a car not an investment! :D

Just a thought but an E93 M3 Cab might be a bit more depreciation proof, and you get an N/A V8 soundtrack to enjoy!
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Thanks, I have looked. It's a definite possibility (as the M4 IS an M3). 12-15k cheaper too.
