Yes we can all say that. Having owned both a genuine ACS built S50 coupe in Estoril, and the first pre production S54 engined car in Steelgrau, will admit that they are, like the E86 coupes an acquired taste.
Burkhard Goeschel, and Anders Warming are talented designers / engineers and both the E36/8 and E86 offer more than the "just another fast car" ownership sensations given the background history to the development and production.
Just like life, different strokes for different folks

I think John’s (Exdos) Z3MC also is steel grey. That would be my colour of choice too, but I’d prefer an S50 with a throttle cable and I don’t believe that combination exists (at least not OEM).

I'm guessing if bought it'll be rarely (if ever) driven and just treated as an investment, which is a shame.
The steering wheel in the Z3M is identical to the one in my mothers (mine ! :D ) E36 318ti Sport.

The grey film on the air bag cover/boss is a residue that gasses off from out of the plastic in an amazingly short period of time. The same stuff leaves a cloudy film on the interior of the windscreen and glass. I wipe it with some interior APC and Autoglym Super Sheen and in a month or so it is back ! Maybe the photographer should've given the valeter a heads up before taking the photos ?

patriot66, that's a tidy, nice looking compact. I had an E46 325ti for a bit. Turned into a total money pit and I got rid. Shame, as I really liked how it drove when it was working.

I had a rare S54 engined Z3M in black with imola red interior. It was the roadster rather than the bread van but as one of only 79 in the uk it would probably be worth 3 or 4 times now what the insurance paid out for it when I stuck it through a hedge into a farmers field!

That taught me not to delay getting the DSC fixed immediately (lateral acceleration sensor fault).

Thanks, yes it's not too bad. It was a 2 or 3 year old trade-in back in 2003 when I worked at Halliwell Jones Warrington. Mum bought it 'love at first sight' and it's been well looked after ever since. There's a little bit of rust on the edge of the OSR wheelarch and a few little car park dings that need some attention but other than that it's really solid. Much better build quality then. Drives great. She had to stop driving last March and it's just gathering dust in her garage now. Not quite sure what to do with it yet

I would love one to be honest, I could put up with the interior, the colour was good enough for 007

I still miss my Z3 and a shame BMW couldn't produce something of similar size and less weight.

Nowt wrong with an S50, IMO. Traction control is for amateurs

Traction control isn’t really necessary for a car with 300hp, but stability control would be a nice safety net for those rare moments when a slippery road catches you napping.

Agreed. It certainly wasn’t a car to be napping in and needed your complete attention. Always felt like it had the ability to kill you at a moments notice if you approached in a laissez faire fashion.

Had a brief chat with the owner of this modified Estoril Blue Z3MC up at the now sadly gone Hartside Pass Cafe one sunday back in May'16. Best colour for this car imho. Can't remember much about it unfortunately :(
